The new member...

1:34 AM 3 Comments
I want to start out by thanking all of you who sent your condolences about Sylver. He really was one of my babies and a well loved member of our family. Yesterday was a really hard day for me.

After a lot of tears and hugs and talking, we decided to honor his memory by adopting another shelter cat. Today, we drove 45 minutes to a fantastic non-profit, no kill shelter. We took along some newspaper and some canned cat food to donate in Syl's name.

It took us nearly 2 hours of looking and petting and talking, but we found our new love. His name is Byron. We've dubbed him LB, short for Lord Byron. I have to say though, stately this cat is not. He's a master sneak attacker and he loves to roll around on the floor and climb up on shoulders.

This is the picture from the website. I'll post some more once I manage to get some. He was too busy playing to pause for pictures while we were at the shelter.

For those of you out there who wished there was something they could do to help ease my pain, I would like to ask you to do something to honor Sylver and the life he led. It may have been short, but it was happy and full of love.

I would ask that you take the time to locate your closest no-kill animal shelter/rescue group. Once you find it, please do one (or heck, all) of the following : a) adopt a pet. there are so many animals out there that need loving homes. b) offer your love and home for foster care. yes, there are animals out there who need a place to stay until slots open up in the shelters. c.) make a donation. It could be your time, your money or some of the things that the shelter needs.

If there isn't a no-kill animal shelter in your area, let me point you to the one we visited today. The people there were so nice, the areas were all clean and the animals were obviously very well taken care of. If you're looking to adopt a cat, they're even waiving the adoption fees from now until August 1st. You can find more information here about the available animals, the things they need and where you can find them.

One last thing...and I may sound like Bob Barker here, but please be a responsible pet owner and have your babies spayed or neutered. There are so many out there already that need loving homes, please don't add to the problem by allowing your animals to have unwanted babies.

Goodbye, my darling...

Sylver

I'm devestated to have to say that my sweet boy, my Sylver kitty has died. I found him in the closet this afternoon and I dont think I've stopped crying since. He was a hellion, this one. He used to hide under the table and jump out at the boys. He was obsessed with water. He would walk the edge of the tub while I had a shower, just being there. He was my salvation through the darkest hours of this past year. I am totally heartbroken over this. I adored this crazy little boy, my Sylly...

An Argh Kinda Day

11:43 AM 0 Comments
I am having such an argh kinda day. I woke up when the alarm went off and already the house was a million degrees. I have fans running in every room and it does hardly any good. Then, the boys were fighting because Roger took the last clean shirt from the basket. You have got to be kidding me. So, I pulled open their drawer...and the drawer front came off one side. Great.

Then, it was off to pick up food from our local Angel Food place. Did the pick up just fine. Went to place the order for next month and they don't take foodstamps. Yes, for those that don't know. I was forced to go on food stamps after the divorce so that I could keep going to school. Anyway, they're supposed to take them but my site isn't set up for them. Peachy. So now I have to find out who is and place my order there.

Got back here. It took me 3 trips on a badly hurting foot to get the boxes of food inside. Then, the boys started trying to kill each other. I mean WWIII in here. Ben feels the need to boss Roger around and to hit him when he won't listen. Roger feels the need to beat on his brother and to just be stubborn.

Did I mention it's not even noon? A million sticky degrees in here? Oh..and it's Day 1 of my period so I'm not at peak shape?

Where I've Been

11:43 AM 0 Comments
Going crazy, I swear. Ok, I was already crazy but it's felt like an insane summer. My boys are here with me and we've been trying to keep busy with trips to the library and 1 or 2 of the free movies each week. I've been feeling a bit under the weather with what appear to be never ending allergies. I think I've gone through a box and a half of tissues, at least. If anyone wants to buy me stock, Kleenex might be a good one to buy.

Other than that, I guess I've been feeling a bit low. No particular reason. It just happens sometimes. I've been slowly tackling projects around the apartment, though. Right now, I'm working on totally clearing out my cupboards of foods we won't eat or things I have multiples of. Like, why do I need or even have 3 containers of baking cocoa? If all goes well, I'll be posting two or three bags of food up on freecycle (www.freecycle.org) later on today.

Let's see..what else? Oh! My nephew Dominic was born on Friday. He's in NICU right now, but hopefully won't be too much longer. As a former NICU mommy, I can tell you that he's coming along just fine and was there mostly for preventative reasons.

Oooh...and Klo has asked me to join the Pazzles girls for an upcoming show! I'm super excited and can't wait. It's not til the end of this month though, which is good because I have so much to get done. We have company coming about a week after we get back (the boys are going to stay with my sister, her kids and my grandmother while I'm gone) and I need to kick this apartment into shape.

Guess that's about all happening here. Hopefully I'll be back to updating regularly real soon.

Oh, and if anyone knows a really good Stampin' Up! demonstrator, I'm looking for a new one. I'm finally giving up on the nonsense that the current one puts me through just to get my orders.

Dirt Devil - Your Cleaning Dirvish

Dirt Devil AccuCharge is the brand new cleaning tool from well, obviously, Dirt Devil. What you may not know is that it’s also the first cordless vacuum to receive
Energy Star approval. What does this all mean?

Well, instead of calling in the family pet to clean up that scattered pile of bacon bits you spilled on the kitchen floor, you could pick up this handy tool and clean it right up without worrying about your energy bill cleaning you right up.
Remember that potato piece that rolled under the edge of the stove that you just left there and now you mysteriously have these white things growing out from under there? You could have sucked that right up with the Accucharge, as well.

I know that we don’t want to really confess to how we save energy while cleaning, but hey, this is blogland and no one really knows us, right? Ok, so they do know us. But, they also love us and hey, we all know that cleaning isn’t as much fun as say, curling up with a good book or a great movie.

The truth is. It’s hot in my apartment. It’s sticky. It’s humid. I hate moving when it’s like this. I am just as likely be lazing about as I am to be cleaning. Who knows, maybe this new cleaning tool will find its way into my apartment and make my cleaning life just a little bit less…sticky.

Corn on the Cob...

12:29 AM 1 Comments
There's something about corn on the cob that whisks me back to childhood. I can clearly remember being sent outside with a dozen ears of corn and a brown paper bag to husk it. I would sit in the swing that my grandfather had built as a surprise for my grandmother and happily peel back those green leaves and make sure that not a single hair remained on it. Yes, I was a perfectionist even then... My grandfather is gone now and so is that swing...My grandmother sold the cabin a few years ago and while I think she may have taken the swing down, it no longer sits outside the gingerbread cottage where I spent many a happy summer's day, just shucking corn.
